Balancing the carbs sounds like it is more tricky that throttle bodies on an SV, mainly due to where the vacuum nipples are. The front one involves removing the airbox and moving the radiator out of the way. The adjuster screw is also hidden under the airbox.

A common mod on curveys is to add piping to the vacuum nipples so that the carbs can be checked for balance without removing the airbox / radiator. If they need adjusting, then the airbox has to come out, but at least there is no need to faff about with the radiator.

Sounds like you had a reasonable deal to me Hovis.

To hook up a carbtune on a pointy you don't even need to lift the tank!! To adjust, both screws are behind the airbox, and can be done without taking the top off the airbox.
