Lightweight! After riding that corkscrew, what are a couple of canyons?

It's a road I will never ride. After enduring the DHS Gestapo one time too many I will not return to the USA until normal service resumes.

Looks like you got your wish... Still raining in the Greenville area, but the Gap itself looks like nothing but mist. Enjoy the ride!!!

If you don't feel like riding the dragon, there's plenty of other roads in that area that are lots of fun. Around Fontana Dam, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Foothills Parkway are all great roads to go play on

I sure did. We left around 10 am this morning...it was still raining in clemson and we got a little wet in franklin, but by the time we got to the dragon and had lunch more than half the the run was dry and completely unobstructed (didn't run into a single other person in our lane all the way, what luck!). So we took a nice slow get familiar run and stopped at the other end. It was 95% dry on our second run and I'm happy to say that my chicken strips are down to about 4 or 5 mm. Man was it fun. Total mileage on the day was about 350 and a total about about 8 hours on the bike!

I can't wait to see the killboy pictures! I was the only curvy out there! Couple other pointies including a very nice fully fared blue one with a black frame! The guy worked at the base...he didn't have chicken strips...in fact his tires were blistered side to side....

I rode it a few months back. Very good road and provided you don't ride like a knob, it's not a particularly nasty/dangerous one prone to catch you out. The main threat is other people coming the other way and going wide into your lane, like the er in an S2000 who nearly took me out. When I came back the other way I was overjoyed too see he (rather than some poor biker) had paid for his irresponsibility, as he had put the car on its roof.

The police's attitude there is pretty sound too- they'll bust you for doing over 50, which considering it's a 30 road and you'd be hard pressed to safely do over 50 in more than a handful of places is quite reasonable IMO. Did you have a chance to check out the Cherohala Skyway whilst you were there? Less technically difficult, but a nice ride with some great views. As clm2112 says, the Fontana dam is worth a look at too. I really liked the rides I had round there and will certainly be going back in a few years time. Perhaps most importantly, it got my girlfriend into biking (well riding pillion at least) properly, at long last.

BTW Killboy's photos are superb, I have a few of myself by him. The low res samples don't do his work justice, you won't be dissappointed.

We didn't get to ride much else up there as we went just to ride the dragon, but we did take 64 back to south carolina through highlands, nc and that was a blast! It was a great time over all and we didn't have any run ins with cars or trucks crossing over. It seemed very quite up there as if the rain in the morning kept a lot of people away. By the time we left though it was starting to get more crowded. I will definitely be anxiously waiting for the killboy pictures to be posted because the second time we past I think they got some pretty good pics!

Also one of the guys I went with had a camera mount on his '06 ducati multistrada 620 so we got some ok video even though he couldn't really keep up with me or the guy on the cbr 600. If I would have known he was falling back I would have slowed down to get some better video. Either way I think it will be posted on google video soon and I will surely post the link!

The pictures are finally posted! I don't have them in hand yet, but they are up online! Here is the link. http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/Orde...0511&po=511&c=

There are only 4 pics on there. It was a blast though.
