I had a pretty good service with the RAC - booked it the night before so they would come in the morning. They did send the wrong vehicle at first (sent someone to repair it instead of shift it, which I'd said was the only option) but then got a full-on recovery truck with a special bike cradle. They had a load of new bike collection trucks in but no one trained to use them at that time.

With all of these firms, you need to be clear and firm on the phone - if it's got to be shifted and can't be repaired, make sure you're 100% clear as the operators know little about fixing things and will tend to send a standard repair vehicle.

And pretty much all the big car-oriented ones will ask you if you have a spare wheel for a puncture, even if you've told them it's a bike
