There isnt much way to stop it, but parents could do more. Nowadays, kids get too many material things (computers, phones, etc etc). When I was younger, I didnt get anything unless it was my birthday or christmas, or if i really needed it (e.g. footwear every 6 months). Instead, my parents would take me and my brothers and my sister out to places, as a family. Simple things like a walk in the forest, or to the beach, or swimming. I have a great deal of respect for my parents, and I hope that my kids will be the same with me. I certainly won't be giving into every demand, and - like my parents - will assist my children in getting what they want from life, but not just giving it to them on a silver platter with fanfare and a big glitzy party. Look at these kids on MTV's "my super sweet 16" or whatever it is. Disgusting! They shout at daddy for getting a £60,000 car in the wrong colour! And its the same in england.

I also think kids have too many rights. Whats wrong with a little clip around the ear? Done me no harm.

Matt
+1, parents gave me what I needed apart from Birthdays & Xmas when I got what I wanted! I didn't have a hard up bringing (far from it) but Ihave respect for other people and especially my parents.

So how can the prblem be reduced?

Punish parents of offenders under the age of 18? Custodial sentence plus fines maybe?

But that kind of measure is aimed at people who unfortunately are already established as likely offenders?

How about taking it right back to the root of the problem? Society Awareness education for kids from age 5? Why so young? My mind castes back to the James Bulger case where his killers where aged 10 at the time.

Or given further? Remove state assistance for people who become pregnant knowing that the state will provide? How about being able to provide proof of some work history for at least 2 years prior to becoming pregnant? I am just throwing rough ideas in here for you to embelish with wiser feedback.

I am not totally convinced that all of the problems can be laid at the door of the present goverment, it is more a matter of the evolving of the system drifting off along well intended but very flawed paths.

I can't see how this could help the child. Surely the child would end up growing up in poverty.

Good point Sarah. Then maybe change policy to indicate that those who bring children in to the world must hold the responsibility to provide for them, not the system?

Maybe set a date which indicates anyone falling pregnant after tht date...it's tough sh+t...you were warned?

The problem is we're a nation of sissies.

The welfare state seemed like a good idea at the time - make sure everyones got a roof over their head and that no-one goes hungry. The influx of work shy scroungers being the result.

If the government tried to stop it though, chances are these economic parasites could well end up homeless, along with their armies of *******s (Black Adder is great). Then 95% of the population would be up in arms demanding "wont someone think of the children!"

No-one can stomach the idea that you've gotta be cruel to be kind.
