I'll let you into a little secret, there are quite a few police officers who don't think it's a very fair way of policing the roads either. Why do you think they are run by "Speed Camera Partnerships". The police have a fairly small part in most partnerships, and are generally only involved because for some things you need police powers.

Sorry but that is a beaurocratic loophole to get off with the punishment for breaking the law.
The guys in question admitted to speeding, but cause the forms hadn't been filled in properly... You speed you get caught you get points, man up, accept the consequences of your actions. Rant over |

From one of the newspaper articles...
"Hampshire Constabulary refused to say whether the case damaged the credibility of the speeding prosecution process or if there was an investigation." Sounds like it's been dunked in a bucket of whitewash.... |

True but you also have to recognize that this story is all about integrity. If the Partnership messed up and didn't do the forms properly then they should be "man enough" to also accept their mistake and not resort to dishonestly to achieve their objective. Their dishonesty undermines a lot of other good work, and just gives ignorant social misfits ammunition to fire at the police generally.

But we all know that wouldn't happen. Personally i feel its the beaurocracy / targets / courts that cause most of the problems for the police. But thats another discussion entirely. |

When you stray over the posted limit as we all do from time to time,do you go round the nearest nick and dob yourself in so you can "man up" and take the punishment? After all you would have been speeding and surely deserve it? I recently went through some roadworks with a temporary speed limit at a rock steady 50 only to realise that the limit was 40.Im now consumed with guilt and wonder if I should fess up at the local nick. Will they take bloody notice? ![]()

The 14 day rule is there for good reasons, the police/SCP have 6 months to proceed with a prosecution. The 14 day rule avoids undue stress on the defendant who is unable to 'man up' because he honestly doesn't remember if he used that road 6 months ago, never mind remember what his speedo was reading at the time. The 28th January was a Wednesday, but I've just checked and I have no meetings recorded in my diary on that day and have made no mileage claim. I don't even know if I drove my car that day, maybe I worked all day at home and the car never moved off the drive, who knows?
The various devices used to measure speed are not infallible and cloning of vehicle registrations is common, innocent people do get falsely accused. It's very stressful to be accused of something that you haven't done, and I imagine even more so if you can't remember if you did it 6 months ago. It gives the defendant half a chance of defending themselves, and allows the court to give some credibility to the defence, given that it's is not based on a 6 month old recollection of a non-event such as driving along a motorway, of which actually the defendant has a very foggy memory if at all. In short the legal process has to be adhered to and if an SCP is going to cheat, then in order to avoid injustice taking place the prosecution should not be allowed to proceed. Even within the 14 days, people will plead guilty to speeding simply because a letter says they were and they assume it must be accurate, and perhaps all they really should be admitting to is that they were driving that vehicle, on that road, at that date and time. It was a coment on the beurocracy and unjustness of the legal system, not a condemnation of speeders / small plates etc. This is the problem with computers, you can never say exactly what you mean. |

Allright.I was being a bit focetious (even if I cant spell it to save my life)but I just cant get my head around this "man up and take your punishment" mentality.Either you think speeding is a cardinal sin and should be dealt with as such or its a largely unimportant issue which we all indulge in.To me,as long as speeding is not done inappropriately, mindless enforcement is wrong and should be resisted. That will include trying every dodge to get away with it if caught.
