Been there a few times, never quite been the same since my traffic island incident a few years ago but I kept pushing on

Bike is really just a commuting tool for me now, I rarely go for a ride just for fun anymore and am too nervous with group riding unless i'm at the back, I'm sure i'm not slowing anyone up but I always think I am... When i'm on my own I'm fine so i'm sure its just psychological... maybe i'm just getting too old for tearing around at silly speeds anymore

Next bike could be a harley

Never really though about it that way. I enjoy riding. Every minute of it. Commuting or riding for fun ... still love it. All the worries I have go away when I am on the bike. I love every minute of it. Yes it occured my mind that I could die riding one day ... but as well as that I could be killed by a falling brick or run over by car when I cross a road or get my head kicked in by some drunken yob ... but I don't think that way.

No never, its the one thing that really makes me feel alive. If I die on my bike then I've died doing something that I love doing.

I never think about it, I just ride. Lifes to bloody short to sit and worry and think what if all the time.

I agree, and i never used to think about anything before getting a bike, but in doing so I just statistically got considerably closer to doing myself an injury or worse. Its the weird patch or never having ever though about it prior to getting the bike, to now thinking about it everytime i pull my helmet on.

I think it has all occured after seeing the biker hit the Jag on the C&F, 2 second later or 2 second earlier and he may have hit the car at a different angle and the outcome may well have been a very different story for him and his family that day.

Well for me I love my bike, agree with Fizz its one of the few things that make feel good and lets me know I'm alive....yeah is something happened then at least I would be having good time if were too. Yeah as nike says "Just do it" if I stopped worry about everything that could go wrong, then I would never get on my bike or go to work.

My job some days can be massive adrelin spikes, of high and low, espically when things start to go wrong. If went complete wrong ie, a driver stacks a car I'm in that could be end of me. Though today was a crap day at work for me, but it happenes!

Without wanting to lessen the impact tragic crashes have to those left behind, I think you possibly need to crash more. Yep, that's right. It's kinda like rock climbing, you need to fall off before you have true confidence in the rope and your protection. Crashes come and crashes go, sometimes they're nasty, sometimes they're fine, and sometimes, somebody has to unfortunately have the fatal or near fatal ones. These are actually rare enough that our past-time hasn't been banned yet though. And whilst leaving loved ones behind is horrible, in a fatalistic kind of way, you're not going to be around to know it. After you've been off double digit times you (a) don't make (so many) stupid mistakes and (b) I think you kind of take a more spiritual approach to it, when your number's up it's up. That's not to say you take silly risks, just that you've weighed those risks.

As for licence loss, to be honest, I think that's more likely in a car. Firstly you've got double the number of reg plates to read in a car, that increases your chance, secondly, it's easy in the car to do three figure speeds without really realising it, thirdly (if you're anything like me) in the car you're just in get home as fast as possible without incident mode, wheras on the bike you definitely know when you're going fast and you're generally "on the boil" and paying much more attention to your surroundings - that includes looking out for the Hawaii 5-0 and cameras.

+1

I have never, ever, not wanted to be out with Pete on the bike. (Well, apart from the time we test rode an SV1000, couldn't wait to get off the bag of nails!)
Cold, rain, whatever, I never get off without a huge smile on my face.
