Yeah thats right, but my dad's is a 3.5 V6 sports car so it makes the differnce, on the other hand my car is 14 years and a 1.4. I do wonder though when its starts to benfit out bikes or whats bikes it should be put in.....any comments from folks in the know?

Engines with more advanced ECUs that deal with knock sensors and have lambda sensors can alter the fuelling on the fly. The BMW K1200R for instance gets a nice lump more power if you put in better fuel. The maps on the more basic systems such as that on the K3-K6 SV are static and won't inject more or less, or alter the ignition based on how the engine is running, hence they need a remap if you change the induction and exhaust.

The K7 apparently has a lambda sensor but I've not looked at one and don't know how bright the ECU is (Unless it alters the timing the gains from a higher octane fuel will be minimal)

As Northy points out, the higher octane fuels tend not to have the carbs ice up in winter so can be worth it on the curvys But then, he's got about 6 posts, what does he know?

Yep, because an Impreza will up the boost for higher octane, not just because it's high performance. Likewise BMW K-series bikes, they increase the ignition advance when they have good fuel (or retard it with lower octane fuel, it's all the same really). You could build a really low performance car that could exploit high octane fuel, frinstance with a compression ratio from hell, but then why bother? It'll just be a slightly higher performance low performance car with a mean thirst.

Of course, I might just be saying that to agree with Jambo, who's impressed me with his higher post count- he must be dead clever

The increase in price to over £1 a litre hasnt changed how much I pay really. If i was filling up a car with 50 litres, might make a differance, but its only a few pence more with the SV

So I'm not complaining And anyway, what can I do? I need petrol in the bike at whatever cost, be it 50p a litre or £1.50

It's 108.9 for diesel around here. With a round trip of 70 miles a day for work, a GF who lives 200 miles away, and a family that lives 360 miles away my card is hurting badly.

Yeah, it's an expense I have no choice over. But with the collapse of the dollar oil is actually cheaper than it was a while ago! I've had my car 6 weeks and there's 10p/litre extra since I bought it. It works out about an extra £30/ month for fuel since October alone
