ah but with his sweeping statement hes got the back up of those that HAVE been injured by being rear ended and were riding defensivly esp with the "Getting rear ended is nobodys fault but yours".

Maybe a t-shirt over the leathers saying "I don't take it up the a**e!" would help

No saying he will notice but it is doing a little of the thinking for the chimp in the car
+Me. That's how I read it too, the example given is extreme*, but makes a good point - it doesn't matter how far 'in the right' you are, it's best to avoid any sort of bump.

And this is absolutely true:

if you're serious about reducing the risks when you're riding its time to stop blaming others, time to forget this 65% of accidents are car drivers business and blame yourself.
It doesn't matter whose fault it may be - just don't get into it.

* And above all controversial - which is why it's given.

Yep, I think there's a basically solid point buried until the idiocy... The article reads much like the writing of someone who's had something explained to him and thinks it's a great idea, but either didn't entirely get it, or lacks the ability to pass the message on.

We all get told on our CBT to watch for cars opening doors, not to overtake past junctions, etc- that's all the same idea, proactively protect yourself rather than depending on other people doing it right. Just not taken to the same daft extreme.

Actually I think this is a valid point. When I had my 125 and my SV first of all, everytime I had a moment and recovered from it, I used to think talk to my dad about it when I got home and often I'd ask myself what could I have done to avoid that situation etc etc.

I think all he is getting at is to take an alternative view of the way you ride and behave on the road. the best way of avoiding an accident is to not have the accident in the first place.

Its just poorly written and what is there is written for effect because controversy sells newspapers.

Fizz is right; i often try and place myself to the side of a lane, or in between stationary traffic (if there are two lanes) to protect myself. If tis gonna happen though its gonna happen, and Mr Ash is wrong to saty stop whining when really, it isnt your fault. But you can reduce the risk a little if you consider stuff a bit more

Even so, its poorly written, like most of MCN

I believe that Bigape was talking about stopping short of the line to give some room for increasing the stopping distance of any motorist approaching from the rear (!). He didn't mention crossing the line at any point.
