SV is an easy bike to learn mechanics on

I have done LOADS .. and knew little at the start
a Haynes and some time and patience

I have changed the brakes pads-throttle clutch cables. brake oil. tyres. chain, serviced - new indis new mirrors, all electrics, new tail tidy etc etc- my lil SV has given me fun and confidence but ..

BUT

if you dont feel confident get a pro.. its your life at the end of the day .. re brakes and cables etc

I however- always was quite handy- I live local.. can't get handier than that !!

Get gearbox oil for trucks, and put it all over your brakes

I use a semi synthetic oil in my bike, it goes in the engine

I had no idea at all what I was doing til my 125 kept breaking down and I had to fix it... The first time I'd seen a wheel bearing, or head bearing, or camshaft, or carb, was when I started taking the SV to bits. Now I still have a lot to learn but I could probably take my SV down to its individual parts and put it back together, and have it still work... I might even have some spares left over The best way to learn it is to do it IMO. What's the worst that could happen?

OK. But apart from the prospect of accidentally killing yourself, what's the worst that could happen?
