My previous one was also a 99 model. My new one also has the lower fairing as well so wondering if that makes a difference.

Just to point out, because the noise goes away when you pull the clutch in does not make the clutch a major suspect. This has removed the load off your transmission, and engine.
What do you use as chain lube? A nice large measure of heavy engine oil as a chain lube make a difference?

Through the course of today many things have been tried. The sprockets are tight. The chain has been tightened and loosened. All make no difference what so ever. The sound definately seems to originate from down by my left boot. Its all very strange!

Hi to all,
I just started this thread last days. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=106563 We could merge them together. It seems the same problem. Did you find any solution/reason? Regards, Andy |

ok, i posted on here on the first page. Suzy is now running and on initial ride the noise seems to have gone.
She was only used for shorts journeys last year, very rarely ridden in fact. Both of these threads sound similar to my problem. Now then, I'm holding my breath that it has been cured, but this is what we did to resolve it. Firstly bough some engine flush, you put it in the oil, and run it for about 15 mins at idle, the instructions for use are on the bottle as i'm not the one who dis it. Then you dump the oil and leave it to drain completely over night. Put new oil and filter on. We also put an new clutch cable on because it was fubarred and a new chain because that was also fubarred Its also worth pointing out that my friend who is a motorcyle mechanic said a lady went to him with a bandit that wouldn't go in gear properly, he flushed her engine( as she had a couple of other probs) and it cured the lot. its inexpensive and if you follow the instructions could help

I have somehow the feeling that the wind can cause the sound... but has something to do with the clutch and acceleration. If I pull the clutch the noise goes away, if I don't accelerate the same.... In the first gear no sound... starts around 35 - 40 kmh. |

Well... actually cand give it a try as you said. This might mean that the sound is coming from "inside"?? |
