THere are so many questions that are just not being answered.

I wish people would not waste the org's time asking a question if they are not prepared to check back and answer questions to hopefully come to a resolution.

Issues as I see them
1) what did the fuel guage say before you entered the petrol station?
2) what did the fuel guage say when you left the petrol station?
3) when the nozzle was squeezed was there any evidence of fuel being pumped?
4) to run out of fuel within 5 miles in a car is very strange, that means you would have had to run the tank down to 0.5 litres before entering the petrol station, I can't believe anyone does that

You are quite right I haven't answered the questions correctly, I normally do, but have been a bit side tracked. Not really an excuse and I know how frustrating this can be so apologies.

1) the fuel gauge was at empty and flashing.
2) this wasn't checked, I always do, but my wife does not.
3) again I always have mine slightly out until I see liquid coming through (not sure why), but Mrs. H does not so the answer to this is not sure.
4) might of been a bit more than 5 miles gravesend to dartford and she doesn't exactly drive economically, she's not that observant either. Car became very juddery and I told her to stop as it was a hire car and I didn't want more expense.

Kev, sounds to me like the issue here was a mixture of pump problems and the car equivalent of PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair)... so maybe PEBWAC...

I'd be sure to tell the Mrs that, especially after the roasting you got about the beemer.

There were a lot of the other pumps with 'Out of Order' signs on......

We have a great deal of that here at work, but at home everything is my fault!!!

I have just got out of the dog house, I am happy to be out and intend to stay out, she is just not as observant with some things as I am.

I imagine it's just as frustrating for you as you can't get all the info from your wife - sounds familiar

I take it that even if she didn't notice the guage after filling, it's showing empty now.

I just can't believe the pump would show the volume counting up without any fuel going through the hose

Although I did happily experience the opposite on Friday, I was filling up my bike, it was almost full so had slowed down when the pump seemed to switch off so no matter how hard I squeezed it was only a fast trickle, but the guages stopped turning completely Free Fuel!

Ah! maybe the pumps can register without actually dispensing.

The problem with that site is putting up with all the "my Porche Turbo does this & my Mustang does that" comments

Stu, I didn't read it as so.

From what I remember, it's more or less impossible for that to happen. I just thought I'd do a little search to see what comes up.

Yeah the thread was full of problems with Porche computers, But I doubt that the Porsche computer would fail to increase the range from 48 miles after adding 2 gallons

(Although Top Gear last week - Ferraris getting 1.7 mpg IIRC it would only go up to 51 )

And that guy that put £100 worth into his half full Omega - how can you dispute the problem there (if you believe him)

That was really winding me up too!!!Although have to confess when I had a Porsche I did refer to it quite often and it was only a 944!

When additional petrol was added the fuel gauge went up as expected......the whole thing is still a mystery!
