The SV (if it's a UK model) has carb heaters that should prevent carb icing, trouble is that the sensor has a habit of not being in the best place[1] and if you're not carefull it'll sit somewhere a tadge warmer than ambient.

[1] It's just loose, from memory it's a black D shape, around the size of a pound coin and normally sits around the right front of the frame.

It does but they dont...

Best fix is as posted above, run it on premium fuel, Shell Optimax used to sort mine out in the winter if I did get carb icing, but it wasnt very often. IMHO its not a big thing and I wouldnt let that one particular niggle put me off buying a bike if it was the right one.

Exactly, mine didn't until I moved the sensor so it sat in the airflow rather than against the frame. Made the world of difference.

Still, going for a fuel additive is easier and will still work even when the fuel heaters aren't.

Thanks for all the replies - well, went over and had a listen and a look -
fetching it next weekend 2003 pointy naked in Blue.

Blue flame twin exit cans sound nice don't they - how could I not buy it !

I've done that too, didn't make any difference... I suppose it depends on the conditions you ride in, they're good enough to deal with mild carb icing conditions but not bad ones.
