as for over-filling it i reckon it's because you're a risk taker, you want to get as much in as possible and often this results in you overfilling. i know because i do the same, and if i were going to get all dr phil about it i'd say i bet you also try to beat the self closing fridge door when you put the milk back in instead of just using your other hand to stop it shutting

+1 to the over-filling and beating the fridge door. The disappointment when I catch the fridge door when I'm withdrawing my hand from it.
