Lissa, surely having a busted hand is screwing up going on the bike? Yeah blah, blah I don't hold on... but we all do at some stage, or brace on tank etc... If you get it looked at and allow to heal properly you may end up messing up next years riding. Just go get it looked at woman!

It's no good hiding.................I know where you live

Going on the bike is fine, I only use one hand to brace against the tank anyway, I've just swapped hands

That's a pretty efficient A&E up your way mister! My experiences of A&E - admittedly not many - are never in response to "Emergency"

I can only echo what everyone else has said about getting it checked out Lissa, being on the bike can't be doing it a great deal of good and the last thing you want is some sort of lasting problem with it, especially over the coming months Somehow, Pete's bike without Lissa riding it is like crackers without cheese - Gromit...

I hope you get it sorted!

Crap thats not good....my guess is the doctor sees alot of people and can probably tell.....but if your still not happy get a second opinion.

How heavy are these items at your work......you shouldnt even be lifting them if they require two people......by law there should be some kind of mechanical means.

If you can't grip properly and get shooting pains at the base of your thumb, I'd ask them to check for a scaphoid break - they're exactly the same symptoms as when mine was broken. Can you put your arm out straight in front of you and bend your wrist so your palm's facing away from you? If not, I'd definitely ask 'em to check.

How did I know that would be your answer? Get it checked out woman! What have you got to lose by going? What have you got to lose by having a crippled hand? Think on...

Ok, you nagging lot...............I've been back to the hospital, but only after my boss ordered me to and drove me there himself

Two and a half hours and an x ray later.................no break. My tendons are very stretched though, the doctor actually said 'Ooh...look at the gap between your bones!'

Verdict is, keep wearing the splint for as long as it takes, which could be weeks. Hey ho, at least I can get my leathers on and done up over that

Have you filled in the accident book at your work? This could be classed as an Industrial Injury and you could probably put in a claim for injuries!!

Its not about getting a claim in....that does nothing other than **** your employer off and you would probably have to leave as a result of it. (Although I have no doubt that it would be an easy claim as its a manual handling injury, something you probably shouldnt be doing anyway)

But making sure they have the right procedures and equipment for lifting heavy items would be a good start.

Part of my job involves taking the cases apart to foam the interior. There isn't any machine that can do that, and I don't normally have a problem. The section of case we were lifting to put back only weighed around 50 kilos, so I'm quite capable of taking half the weight of that, I was only hurt because the guy lifting the other side lost his grip. Just an accident.
