I had already made my mind up that it was going to be garbage long before it was released but now I've had a couple of listens, I am very pleasantly surprised.

I actually like enough to go out and pay real money for it.

I made the mistake of going to see 'GnR' on their last tour and the performance and egotistical attitude was abysmal. We left before the end of the set, mainly because they were 1.5 hours late on stage. I decided at that point that I would not put any cash in Axl's direction again.

The demos that have been floating around since the time of Napster were truely shocking, with only Madagascar from Rock In Rio sounding any good.

Wind forward to now, and Axl has finally got his album out for sale and the reviews are good...so here is the quandry - go back on my pride and buy it or not bother and possibly miss out on a blinder?

Well the answer presented itself to me this morning - I have got a copy of the disc and am listening to it now.

Its like watered down Use Your Illusion, and I won't be buying it. Sorry Axl, someone else will have to fund your hair folical surgery.

I finally bought the album last weekend - 2 for £10 in HMW with Muse's Black Holes & Revelations.

I really like this album. It's a real grower, in my humble. Top tracks for me at the mo are Chinese Democracy, Better (I LOVE this song) and There Was a Time.

I'm quite surprised, because I thought it'd be absolute gash before hearing it- so very pleasantly surprised. OK- no Slash and way too many session credits, but it's an awesomely epic album that really is worth the repeat listens.

+1

Very pleasantly surprised. There's the odd 'WTF?' moment where it seems like maybe they're trying out different styles just for the hell of it but on the whole 'epic album' is a pretty good way to sum it up.

I really like Madagascar... Seen it done live twice and it's better than 9/10ths of the old GNR tracks. Proper big ludicrous rock opera. Still not convinced about the album mind, but it's at least 10 million times better than I'd expected. At least it's no St Anger.

I really like it.

They were going to struggle to make an album as good as the old ones but they obviously gave it a good go and it's ace.
