I've got a similar problem with mine. its a 'x' reg with 42500 miles on the clock.
ive greased the clip-on, the cables and the spring thing tht the cables attach too as well as the bar on the left side of the carb and its still very stiff. my wrist starts hurt after a while of ridin.
the throttle moves and returns properly but is really stiff

Take it in bits and see where the friction is, I bet at that mileage the cables are a bit aged.

This happened on my bike after it had been left 5 months.. found the problem to be the shaft running through the front carb, I had to unscrew the brass disc, pull out the shaft, copperslip the shaft then re assemble, been fine since.

wel i lubbed up the cables n there were in reet state but there free and loose now and its still stiff. also greesed up the handle bar n tht didnt do the job either
the resistance is on the part of the carb where the cable are attached so its defo the carb. i've not got round to pulling the carbs out and tinkering with them. i cant have the bike off the road as i need it to commute so im going to buy anothe set and swap them over then fixed the carbs i pull out. hopefully that'll sort the git out lol
