I guess we all have very different ideas regarding the meaning of the word 'amazing' - I have no problem with calling Stoner talented by the way.
IMO he's had 1 very good season - when he won the World Championship. But, temper this with the fact that he had clearly the fastest bike on the grid, the bike was built around him & the team seem to be there solely for his benefit (to the detriment of his teammate). Last season can only be regarded as average - he challenged, was found wanting (or was it that the bike once the rules had been tightened up just wasn't that outstanding anymore?) & ended up in second place. This proves he has talent - even if he was 93 points adrift of the champion !! Again IMO there is only 1 rider currently on the grid to whom the word 'amazing' can accurately be attributed & that is Valentino Rossi - multiple World Champion on different makes of bike - able to ride the *ss of his machinery and gain good results even when it isn't the best out there. Give Stoner a few years & he prove to be 'amazing' - but right now ? YOU'RE HAVING A LAUGH !!!

well let's just see what stoner can do this year i think he has all the skill to get the best of rossi through sheer natural talent and bike control alone what rossi has over him though is a bit of patience it's gonna be a good season that's for sure.

The thing about Rossi is that, ever since his days on the 125s, he has overtly LOVED the racing: that's a bit different to just getting out in front and winning. If you recall, in those days he would often slip back a few places for the sheer joy of riding past the leaders again! I think Stoner is a fantastic rider - Gibernau was, and Pedrosa is - but when it comes to RACING, then Vale's the Man. I think that was why he wanted so much to race Bayliss - another real racer.

Casey Stoner is a world class talent.
No ifs or buts. HOWEVER... He can ride a motorcycle...not sure yet if he can race a motorcycle. |

@Supervox, yes - it's about our own definition of "amazing talent", but imo Stoner being able to do something nobody else can on the Ducati is a demonstration of his amazing talent. Capo had a few good races in 07, and we know Duc would like an Italian to win, but apart from those blips nobody has done anything. You can't say a bike is the best if only one rider (at such a high level) is able to succeed with it. If a third Kawasaki had been introduced in 07 with an unknown rider at the bars, and it started to win all the time, would the Kwak suddenly be the best bike (even if the other 2 riders' results were the same)? Would you give only a little credit to the rider? If it suits him it's because either he can adapt his riding style in a way nobody else can, or because he is able to make adjustments in a way nobody else can. I suspect it's the former, and I don't suspect that Duc were giving anything less than 100% to help Marco (a proven race winner) in 08. Either way, it's an indication of amazing talent. |

I think he'll be there.
As for Casey himself, well I think the only thing he is guilty of is not being Italian and not having No 46 on the front of his bike. Sure he likes to moan, but the tw*ts ( because thats what they are ) booing him on the slow down lap at Donny last year are bang out of order. OK so he's not my favourite rider, but I still dont think no matter what he says and does he is deserving of the treatment that some fans seem to give him. Personally he just doesnt seem to be a very likeable character, but that doesnt mean he cant ride a motorbike and thats what I go to watch races for. I also think that he thinks a little to much of himself, i.e. because he's won one championship he should be getting the kind of reception that Rossi does, which doesnt help how he comes across either.
