Very true, Muffles, but I'm not going to take the chance fella!!

Bit of a derail, your Avatar says London? - You don't use the A10 between Seven Sisters and Cheshunt, do you, or the Hertford Road?

If so, I've seen you about (eyeball)!!

Stupid isn't it. No-one could tell me why other than "its the law"..... DVLA were most helpfull

To get a plate off, the car/bike must have a valied MOT, and be taxed (hence insurance needed too).

On another note, if you do have a private reg, and have an accident, if you don't get the plate off straight away, it will be written off with the vehicle its on so you can't get it back.

I think you can insure the plate for an added cost to make sure it can be removed though.

.
My freind had this problem recently, his car was written off, not sure how he ended up getting the plate back though, he did eventually but it took forever.

When you change a VRM you need to ensure your insurance company know its a cherished number, some insurers will ask this when you amend a policy. Otherwise the insurance company own it under their T&C's.
