Whilst you are on his land, he has a right to protect his livestock. Seeing a dog running in an empty field is enough to make him question what control you have over your dog. Who is to say that in its excitement it may or may not run into an adjacent field that does contain livestock and then sorry but bang.

His advice is good. Don't put your dog at risk
Tim mate, your prob gonna be able to give a better viewpoint on this as your on the other side of the fence so please keep checking back to advise/inform me.

I dont disagree with the principal of shootin an animal which is attacking your livestock, I'd have no problem if you were shooting a fox attacking chickens and therefore it would be hypocrytical for me to suggest that a dog attacking a sheep is any less of a crime. Just becuase a dog is a pet it is no less primal with its instinct I understand this but...

My consideration was surely it cant be allowed that this guy can roam around threatening shooting dogs that are with owners espechially while the field is empty. Yes the gate was open to the next field but in 6months shes never been through that gap, never even hinted at going through it.

It makes no difference what the law says. If the farmer is willing to shoot your dog then he will. If you take your dog there again off the lead then you need to get your head examined. It's not worth risking the life of your dog for some stupid argument. Keep it on the lead or walk somewhere else

Does it matter? If the dog isn't causing trouble, the farmer has no right to shoot it. Any farmer that threatens to shoot my dog had better be prepared to shoot me too.

Most farmers are more reasonable... but you'll be in court for any damage your animal does, and I can assure you that you'll have a hard time winning.

correct, what he doesnt have a right to do is threaten the person who owns the dog...

this is the line...

Dog attacks or worries live stock... BANG.... dead dog.. within rights

Dog not worrying livestock farmer threatens and rants... he is a **** and should be shot next time he is seen worryign a dog....sounds fair

I supose he isnt to know I use it he's prob quite busy at that time in a morning and it could be that its only now our paths have crossed. But simarly why can he be so quick to judge? literraly this law makes him judge jury and excicutioner. Thats a system which has been proved to fail everytime!

I'm sorry, whether it is law or his right or whatever, nobody should be approached like that.

Well done you for holding your temper

Perhaps somebody elses dog attacked or worried his livestock in the last few days and he's being extra vigilant at the moment.
