How did it fall? Onto its left side?

If so almost certainly a faulty side stand switch or clutch switch.

You can test this by bypassing them with a peice of wire or a paper clip across the terminals of the plug they connect into.

Start with the clutch switch. Unscrew it from the bar and see if you can reach the plug that connects it. If so disconnect and short the terminals on teh loom side and try to fire the bike up.

Was anything else obviously damaged? Is the nuetral light illuminating when you attempt a start?

It fell onto its left side hence the new gear selector pedal and clutch lever (also made a bit of a mess of the fairing, bar ends and indicator)

Neutral light comes on....in fact everything looks fine except no turn over

Do you think the battery could be shagged?

Yep, my money is on the clutch switch. SHort out as I mentioned above and see if it starts.

Its possible the battery is goosed, check it hasnt leaked battery fluid. If you have a set of jump leads connect up to your car battery with the car engine not running and try the bike again.

Most likely that clutch switch though.

Is the starter button dead, or is it turning and not firing?

Angry Re: Bike wont start

bypassed the clutch switch and I now have rapid clunking from the starter (as if the battery isn't charged up enough) so am gonna leave it charging overnight and try again tomorrow morning

Its definately a goosed clutch switch but is probably a goosed battery too

Its not been a good week

Thanks for everyones help - hope to meet you on a ride out soon

Two choices really, if you feel you dont need it then just short the wires together permanently. I dont use a clutch safety switch at all and have no problem. Just have to make sure you are in neutral before you start her up.

Alternatively I'm sure I have a clutch switch here you can have. I'll post it over.

Smile Re: Bike wont start

I think i'd better replace the clutch switch as I am the sort of idiot who would just end up crashing through a shop window at some point without it, lol

Thanks for the offer flymo, it's really decent of you.. if you have one spare I'd like to buy it from you as I can't find one on ebay or on banditmania / busters.
