I know the feeling well, Clarityn is my current flavour of the month (well has been for about 5 or 6 years) along with the Beconase Nasal spray and eye drops (all prescribed by the quack so full strength not watered down 'over the counter' stuff).
The injections that the doc used to give (Kenalog) would cut the symptoms down by about half just on it's own but for the past 3 years has flatly refused to give it again so i just end up suffering and when it gets too much i get a course of oral steroids (prednisolone) which do the same thing but are much much safer tho the 5 days of 'looking like i'm about to burst/have been sunburned'. It can be embarrasing sneezing 5 or 10 times in a row when sitting at the desk in the office, folk laugh. When it happens on the bike it's another story. Self medicating for hayfever is easy but if you are still having issues, i strongly advise, for both your safety and everyone else on the roads safety, that you go and see the quack for meds. |

Wife struggles with this and she found it an issue today as well so pollen count must have been really high.
I used to suffer from hayfever, but I've been on one a day cetrizene on prescription (you can buy it as Zirtec) all year round for a couple of years now, as a treatment for lung allergies causing respiratory problems and aggrivating my Asthma, and since then a lot of my allergies and lung/trachea problems have just disappeared and my asthma is much better. I used to buy Zirtec for hayfever and found it was the best and it's only a tiny pill once-a-day. Last edited by -Ralph-; 14-06-09 at 10:40 PM. |

Hayfever SUCKS! I've been fine all this year up until about 2 weeks ago. Last year the doctor gave me a nasal spray and some big antihistemene tablets which pretty much stopped all symptoms.
Haven't taken any tablets this year either as the over the counter ones tend to do nothing for me. Last edited by Davido; 15-06-09 at 07:01 AM. |

I've got it and I hate it... drives me nuts. Suffering today a bit, although I was fine over the weekend.
Use Zyrtec or the equivalent, which does the trick most of the time for me. Also use eye drops from time-to-time. Can't get on with nasal spray's at all. |

I have mild hayfever, tablets (always use the non-drowsy!) generally work.
Failing that, a snood works for me, or there are masks/bandanas with pollen/pollution filters. http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/2...spro/City-Mask |

Aye, does get annoying.
I'm on Benadryl till I sort my annual prescription out. Riding along does dtop me from rubbing my eyes though, and I soon find my concentration is more focused on the road so it's not bothering me as much. I was in the car this morning with my Dad at about 4am, it was raining and I had hay fever. WTF! Some years I get it really bad. I've had it during winter before. |

I get Fexofenadine on prescription which works incredibly well. The advice from my specialist was to take it daily regardless of pollen count/symptoms as your body needs to build a reserve of anti-histamine so that when you do start to produce histamine in response to allergens, it lessens the impact.
Now I'm no Doctor, but maybe if you're taking the cheaper 'generic' tablets over the supermarket counter, it may be worth taking them daily to try and help? |
