P.s. just re-read what you said - do you get wind noise at 30mph sort of speeds? Maybe the difference in helmets (I don't get wind noise at that speed really).

Even after 5 years I hate riding on motorways. It's not just the wind - I feel very exposed. When I go to Liverpool on the bike the worst bit is the M53 from just north of Chester to Eastham (south of Birkenhead), 8 miles of hell, it's so busy, and the very very worst bit is the junction with the M56 where drivers join the motorway at 90 - it's brown pants stuff. No easy answer except to do it as often as you can. I practice on the local M54.

On the 675, with zero wind protection, and an HJC HQ-1 helmet I had pretty much no wind noise up to 60mph or so with the custom plugs, at an indicated 100mph it was like having two people standing a metre either side of you hold a conversation in loud whispers, without plugs that'd have been like having someone blow compressed air at your ear from a foot away, i couldn't concentrate properly because of the noise

to compare it to foam plugs, if you can imagine the drop in noise from going from no plugs to foam, going from foam to my customs drops the noise by about half that amount again

That would be my preference, but sometime it has to be done.

i use music as i tend to find it works. And seeing as i work in industry anyway my hearing will drop off anyway. Wonder if listening to music helps with the sound and block out those harmful DB's.

depends on what headphones you use...and how loud you need to have the music to hear it over any wind-noise / helmet rumble

Double Bubble Screen!! this makes a huge difference - my fabbri is lovely!

Noise cancelling phillips earbud work quite well too but since I got my arai I've not had to use ear plugs at all.

I had it fitted at an arai approved service centre and I said i'd have prefered more padding round the ears so they sent it off to arai and it came back fitted perfectly. My own bespoke helmet!
