Fankoo ... what the kit you think? or start from scratch. If I do from scratch my brother is out of the labour crew

I do a fair amount of decking for customers, i have only used a kit once which customer supplied, i wasnt impressed .
You need 6x2 joists (some kits only come with 4x2 joists)unless you want it to be like a trampoline LOL.
If you are only using for a resonable amount of traffic you can space the joists at 450mm centres, or 400mm if you want it stronger.
4x4 posts in ground every 4-5 feet, wrap the bits of the posts that sit in the ground in heavy plastic, this stops them rotting for a long time.
If you have it close to the ground, you will probably only need them sunk in about 12-15", roughly one bag of post mix per hole, use stuff in yellow bags from wickes as from my experience they work the best.
You could probably buy the materials cheaper if you knew what to get.
You wont need handrails if its close to the ground unless for decorative purpose.
If you want i could draw a little plan with sizes on to the size you want so you would have a cutting list.
For labour saving, make the deck fit a standard length board, ie 2.4m, 3m, 3.6, 4m, 4.8.
Based on a 6m run and using 145mm(5-8mm gap) wide boards@ 3m lengths you would need 40 deckboards.

This guy knows what he's talking about. I'd take his advice.

Not that the rest of the contributors don't know. I do this sort of thing for a living as well and thats exactly how I'd do it.

I am having a decking get together with Kwak on Wed .... he is going to come look at the plot and I am going to take your advice guys.

Oh god this should be fun !! LOL

Thank you all so so much for your advice and help xxx

Make the base by one of the methods above, buy the boards and cut them - much cheaper. Hand saw just a few quid, circular saw forty odd notes, or a mitre saw for ninety or so. Then you get to play with the tools afterwards by making something else! Screwfix is your pal for the tools and all the fittings you'll ever need!!
