Fit a GSXR1000 rear shock and some Maxton Springs up front , should cost around £120 for both mods to be done , that is the single best thing you can do to an SV over the stock one to provide more fun and to be able to hassle bigger bikes around the bends .

if you are a better rider you will beat him, as to upgrades, forks, suspension and training, then buy a faster bike, imho.

1/ buy flymo's sv (its a rocket ship)
2/ gsxr springs, and forks (not performance persay but will help ****loads in corners)
3/ proper maintainance, this does effect bhp

ok sorry for the jokes. It's just that the SV doesn't go much faster and it doesn't make financial sense to attempt it - even with a huge wad thrown at it, it aint gonna beat an R6.

Suspension upgrades make it a better bike, and might mean you can go round corners a bit faster than stock, but obviously won't make the bike any faster. And it still won't touch an R6. Not even with proper maintenance

If racing your mates down straight roads is the most important thing, you've got the wrong bike.

with like for like riders, an SV will never compete seriously with an R6 to be perfectly honest. You will match each other off a standing start but the R6 will begin to pull away very shortly afterwards.

Its in the handling department where the R6 will gain most of the advantage, its stock suspension and brakes are far better than the SV equivalent.

In real world riding though (not drag racing) an SV can be made to stick with an R6 reasonably well. Main thing is suspension, its crap on the SV and needs upgrading. The brakes are fine contrary to popular belief but they are seriously compromised by the poor suspension.

Sort out your suspension and then spend the rest of your effort on your riding ability and you cant go far wrong.

The conversation did then progress slightly though in response to the "what upgrades would you advise?" question.

You know we love to talk
