And its 409,unless we are talking about a Xong Du workshop manual. In this case the pages will be numbered vertically and it will be written in pictures. You wont find any chapters apart from in the Hells Angels appendix.

TheShed; what did your grandson put down as the answer? What did the teacher was was incorrect?

Did he write down his thinking to show his train of thought, or say his train of thought?

Did the teacher just tell him he's wrong with no explanation?

Am i right? Do i win?

Shouldn't this be in Idle Banter?
I calculated it the same way (before I read your answer) and also got 409.

It isnt 51pages in each chapter. I get every chapter is 50pages long (you start at 1 and contiune with a difference of 50 for each chapter) 51-1 = 50, 102-52=50, 153-103 = 50 etc you still end up with 409 as the first page in Chapter 9, see list below.

1. 1-51
2. 52-102
3. 103-153
4. 154-204
5. 205-255
6. 256-306
7. 307-357
8. 358-408
9. 409-459
10. 460-510

Oh and by the way the reason this is in the biking section is because that is what the teacher was told
ON YOUR BIKE !!

OMG this question was given to an 8 year old?! No wonder he needed help answering it

And on that note - sorry bit of a derail - but why do parents have the job of helping kids do their homework? Surely it is the teacher's job to teach the kids and then the kids go home armed with the knowledge that they need to do the homework to consolidate what the teacher has taught them - my parents never helped me to do my homework and I didn't very often have to help my kids with their homework - they did it themselves and if they couldn't do it and I had to help then as far as I was concerned the teacher hadn't done their job properly!

Some kids can do this after being shown once and others need more practice and support. There's nothing that difficult about this question really, its basic maths. Judging by some of the homework that my 8 year old daughter brings home this is fairly typical.
