Because you don't agree with that form of taxation and there's not a great deal they can do about it if you know the legal standing on this issue...

I can understand the comparison to road tax, but to insurance? not even similar...

One thing I know is that my local so called TV detector van does not work. They tried to take me to court for not having a licence on a property that I was renovating, there was no tv no furniture nothing. I kept having letters and even a baliff contact about gaining access because the detector has reported that I have a TV. I invited them round they never came. So I wrote again and said fine, see you in court. Never heard from them again, its now 8 years passed. I now live in a different place with a tv and a licence.
