In the end, it was just verbal, but I know how you feel- didn't have something smart to say back at the time, so you feel worse afterwards- kind of like they had one up on you.
I was riding home tonight (Kingston Vale-A3 southbound, approaching Robin Hood jct)- tall thin van in left lane- to the right side of it, but still in the lane, big white transit type van (DVD couriers anyone?)- they were pretty close, but the white transit used the brakes to avoid collision- narrow gap with cars in right lane heading to Kingston Hill. Anyway, the white van, as soon as it clears shoots forward and left nearly ramming the other van off the road (it had to swerve so quick I though it'd hit the barriers). I really couldn't believe that one- I would have gleefully been a witness if it had ended in an incident (though wouldn't have wanted that, of course). I just rode up level with him- looked at him- he looked back and rode off with the usual condescending shake of the head. I'm sure that one really annoys most people. |

I know exactly were you mean, Donal ... is a little tight there ...
Anyway .... agreed (learnt from my cycling days) ... nothing irritates drivers more than you being 'nice' but making it clear you think they are a **** !!! Laughing at them, and shaking your head really annoys them !! ![]() |

I always wondered if cage drivers wud notice if you were shakin your head at them or if they just ignored them. Some ppl are so oblivious to everything they would notice if you hit them, let alone just shake your head in disapproval.

That's why you make eye contact first.
Anyway- even if they don't see you riding off ahead of them with your head shaking in clear condescension, you can at least feel smug that you're doing it and therefore a bit better about things. |

Urm ..... well I think most would notice .... but ultimately .... does it matter ???
What's important is whatever happened, its accident avoided ... and the aim is to get a clear head asap, and start concentrating on the next challenge ..... A quick shake of the head (for me) means I've made my peace (with myself) ... and its onwards ..... no point going over it in your head, then making a mistake ... that would ruin your day .... |

I get really bad road rage, i would probably feel the same as you in this situation.
Not long ago i filtered through traffic and it sort of went into a weird T junction / cross roads, i could go up, left or right and the people coming down could only go left (my right) so i filtered through the right turn where the people coming down filtered into. Theres two lanes for them to go along but they like to cause traffic jams and all try and bundle into the right hand lane so all was stationary i filter through and hear some woman shout f**king wait, me i give the finger and ride off at this point i hear engine reving and a smash of glass, so i checked my mirrors and shes chasing me, turns out at this point id completely forgoteen acted like i was on my SV and it turned out i was on works PS125... was quite a hairy moment but being on a bike i managed to filter past some more cars and she got stuck ![]() ![]() Last edited by Holdup; 10-12-09 at 01:05 AM. |

The other day I was in the cage (as all my posts will start for the next couple of months..), going down a 2 lane street, and I'm in the second lane, with a van right beside me. As we come up to a junction, the van signals right (left for the brits) to turn. There's this guy on the adjacent street that wants to turn left (again, right for the brits). I see him, he doesn't see because of the van, so he pulls right out in front of me. Luckily, my biking months so far taught me a few things, and I was long stopped when he did...
Obviously, he seemed surprised and scared to find me where I was. So he looks at me. I just wiggled my index finger like the teacher would do when we were young and had caught you doing something bad. Now I'm 25 and this guy was in his mid 40s, 50 at the most. He just seemed so embarrassed... I will not forget the look on his face. Lmao all the way home. The unfortunate part is that there's no way I could pull the same thing on the bike.. He would just think he didn't see me because I was doing a zillion mph, and find a way he would be in the right in his mind and continue thinking bikers are hooligans.. Really sad |

turning right into a one way side street... few cars also turning right next too me... Blonde Woman looks me straight in the eye and steps off the sidewalk into my path and ends up between me to her right and the cars on the other side and has the audacity to shout and shake her fingers at me... had i hit her i would have been at fault!
i did manage to shout (which she probably didnt hear) and point out that the little pedestrian man was RED!!!!!! i was absolutely seething. (thankfully i was watching her feet and managed to read her mind of "feck 'em i own this road" ) was tempted to turn round and teach her, like u do a 4 year old, how to cross a road.. stupidity and/or lack of common sense really irks me.. ![]() |

Going down Regent Road heading into Manchester City Centre, every morning I filter to the front of the lights at Sainsbury's/Hotel Campanile. The traffic from the left ALWAYS has someone go through on red, seconds after our lights have gone to green. Thing is, they're only joining a massive queue of traffic anyway. I find that about 10 seconds of the Stebel Nautilus airhorn right next to them whilst I'm glaring at them makes them feel suitably ashamed and helps me calm right down before I proceed to the front of the next queue of traffic.
After all officer, I'm not using my horn as a rebuke, merely alerting other road users of my presence. |
