Depends on what tarrif your on and how much your bills are

If you spend quite a bit with them, they try to keep you happy by giving you whatever you want (with conditions attached of course).

I have an iphone and love it as a gadget, but really not sure it's worth spending that ammount of money in it. it's expensive enough paying the tarrifs it's on at the moment without spending a few hundred quid on it. I would def try and persaude him to just see out his contract on his existing phone. as I'm sure within 6months or so there's bound to be a newer version of the iPhone out and he'll prob want one of them too!

I am one of those people that have never ever bought a sim free handset.....well that changed with the iPhone. I've had it now for over a year and there is nothing else out there that will even match the usability and technology of the touch screen!!

Even though Orange now offer it their contracts are not as good as O2s because simply their data usage i.e. internet is limited. With O2 is unlimited or if you want it has a fair usage policy which is FAIR!

I think the only option you will have is to buy a PAYG iPhone and have him use it on his existing contract. For the future I suggest looking at the sim only simplicity contracts as I believe are the best value for money these days.

O2 now also have started offering an unlocking service for the devices. This means that he can have a sim free iPhone which instantly could be sold for more than £500!!

Go for a 3G as opposed to a 3GS, I did and I got the handset for free, I did on Orange anyway. Its only 8GB but I have a 160gb Ipod so I dont need it for storage I just wanted a better / new phone.
