Apparently High Tensile and High Shear are two different things...that said I just got a high tensile bolt anyway and had no issues

You don't need a smaller battery, just cut the (obsolete) battery stay off the tank hinge and tip the existing battery on its side and make sure the pos and neg cables are loose enough to reach. Simples.

WB, looks good, where did you find the info on the compatability between the SV & ZR shocks.
I was advised thus
"Just because it may "fit" doesn't mean it will work properly. The hole to hole could be the same length, and the bolt holes may be the same size, but if the linkage & triangles, even the swingarm & frame mounting location are different, than the spring and dampening rates would be completely off. Even a small difference on mounting location and linkage rates could end up being a big difference in the spring & dampening. Would could end up with a shock that bottoms out as soon as you sit on the bike, or one that doesn't allow the bike to move at all."

So is there somewhere I can look for details on options on my Falco, or was this something you have copied from someone who already did it & so knows it all works out.

Ta,

YC had a chart but i cant remember who it was, something racing. I used one that CheGuevara put up but it only covers sv compatible shocks (im assuming) as it only lists suzuki and kwak

the shock i have is the same strength as the standard one (bought in confussion as i was looking at wrong shiz on teh chart ) but with a little bit of tinkering it should be an improvement

i sort of bought it with the attitude of "well feck it, if it wont fit, i'll make it fit" but it fitted

Ta,
The linkage controls the leverage on the shock and the ratio of rear axle movement, versus shock movement and whether or not this is linear or progressive.

If you put another shock in that is the same spring rate as the original shock and the same length as the original shock, in those respects you don't change anything and the shock will be compatible, so long as they physically fit.

Damping, compression, etc may need to be set differently on the SV as it would on it's donor bike, but hopefully you are swapping for a shock where those are adjustable.

Most people wouldn't want to change for a shock with the same spring rate as standard however, unless that just happens to suit you perfectly, so there is a calculator on Race Tech's website that tells you for your weight, with the standard linkage on your bike, what spring rate you'd need on your new shock.

Cheguevara's table gives the spring rates and lengths for common shocks that physically fit.

Advised by who? There's a few shocks bolt up and work better than stock, mostly because that's a very low height to set the bar at

Falcow owners forum? If it uses same shock as mille that might be an option.

All bumf about linkages etc. is just to get a working spring rate at the wheel. You don't feel what spring you have fitted, you could have a million pound per inch spring feel exactly the same as 1 pound per inch spring if the linkage allowed it.

The OEM shock isn't compatible with the bike

Rebound dampings job is to control the spring, which being pretty beefy can store a lot of energy. The rebound damping needs to release this in a controlled way.

Luckily for us if 2 bikes need the same spring rate they will need broadly similar damping.
But bear in mind that adjustment is not full adjustment, you have a working range and if your needs are outside that then you'd have to revalve the shock to get it back within a working range.
