You could always try the official SD formatter, farther in law had some issues when buying a card for a digital picture frame.

Might work?

http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/
Tried that, it doesn't recognise that any drive is attached

Still think it could be that it's not being recognised, rather than boogered.

Try Fruity-ya-ya's link.
What keeps confusing me is that it doesn't always recognise the internal memory which you can see in My computer is attached & working fine

No physical switch & it's not sdhc

it alows you to partition and format from there
if you see no partitions on the SD card then its buggered
See the pic above, I think I've done it right, but it's not showing the internal memory either

thats because the sansa clip does not present the card as a physical device, its treated as media player memory, mabey there is a USB mode option on the sansa clip that allows you to do this, ususaly most mp3 players will be set to MTP mode, change it to somthing else and mabey the card reader will then show up as a drive letter

Just to clarify...

Are you trying to format this while inserted in to the MP3 player? As more than likely it will need to be popped into USB card reader or internal SD drive via an adapter to work.

If you have neither of these, let me know, I can pop one in the post if I can find it.

Correct, changed the USB mode & it could 'see' the sansa clip internal memory, but not the external SD card drive.

Yes, as I don't have a specific card reader.
That is awfully kind of you, but I think I have taken up enough of your assistance already I think it's probably time to draw this to a close.
Thanks very much all, it's been fun trying, and I've learnt some along the way.

It's not an issue.

Your other option - if you're going to call it a day anyway, is to pop it in the post - for the price of a stamp, I may be able to sort it for you. If you're not in a rush - you've nothing to lose (except the price of a stamp) .

Apart from, you'll find out this was for a 512 mb card

I can run to the price of a stamp if you pm me your address, or I can bank your generosity until it's worth it with some other problem

Happy to try to give something back to the .org - it's been an invaluable resource since owning my SV, and shines above most, if not all, other forums I've used.
