You could get better than that for the money KJ. And without seeing it in teh flesh it would be difficult to make a clear judgement onthe repairs - could you live with them, or are they structural?

an engine can run forever, but at a certain point they become uneconomical to maintain/service ect.... and probability of failure is much greater on something high mileage.

dont get me wrong bike could do another 15 k problem free, but its unlikely

I know it's not a red sv1000 but you get to 'keep it in the family' and it looks to be in great shape.
Just a thought.

Indeed. Who'd believe a modern 1000cc motor doing a whole 65,000 miles?

Anyway, OP: If you're considering buying this you absolutely must go and see it first, photos alone are no good for estimating the true extent of the damage.

+1

I did notice the forks looked quite corroded. I'd want to have look at the suspension linkage, state of tyres, chain and sprockets.
But TBH I've bought damaged bikes before and they cost loads more than you first budget for, so now I avoid them.

the engine may be good for a 150K,but its the clutch drum you hear horror stories about, the drum wears and rattles, you can send it away to be de riveted and shimmed up or replace the drum,im told the rattle gets so bad you cant live with it, and is a known fault with a sv1000,and a high milage bike like this one will most likley need £400 or so spent on the clutch,i not biassed but £1400 will get you a almost mint vfr800 98/2000 vintage with that well known honda build quality(good for at least 200k),and i would say a cat c sv in this condition is only worth about £700 and it could be a moneypit
