I really don't know what the answer is, and to be honest, I don't get paid enough to think too hard about it.

One thing I do know is that most of the people I will deal with (read, put to the court) throughout my career will be repeat/habitual offenders. How we, as a society, cure this, I don't know,and to be honest, I'm not sure we will ever find the perfect answer to this!

In fact why not send the crims to Pakistan as a substitute for foriegn aid?

I know that offenders are sent to prison as a punishment not for punishment so when they get there they have a better quality of life than a lot of people.

How many pensioners do you know that struggle to survive as they can't afford to put heating on full in the weather, don't eat properly and don't own a huge tv?

These criminals have 3 meals a day, tv and probably Sky, hot water and heating. take away the luxuries and make it a life of punishment for them so they wont want to go back.

Best of both worlds, spend the money you save on heating and good food on providing good education for them.
