it is bad though, they do get alot of earthquakes over there.

I very much doubt that the frequency of natural disasters is any greater now than it has been in the past. The difference is that as the planets population grows more people are going to get injured or killed by these disasters. We also have more or less instant global communications and media broadcasting global events so we get to learn about these disasters virtually as they happen.
