Ooh- nice! Brass nut? Must be cold!!

Had a bone nut fitted on my Epi Black Beauty- that and a re-fret and it plays better than from the factory!! Nothing quite like it. I've been getting my other guitars set up and repaired over the last year or so. It's like getting a brand new guitar!

Who do you get to set your`s up ? Never had a brass nut on a guitar before, but i put some heavy strings on my LP and the nut opened right up so get loads of fret buzz with regular strings now Not what you`d expect from a 3k guitar but it`s all the trials and tribulations i suppose.

I use Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience. Charlie is an expert in guitar repairs/setup and they're a great bunch of people there- very helpful and knowledgable.

Soulds like one of the re-issue LP's- which model have you got?

Gibson are known for being a little on and off with their production standards- I've heard of nuts disintegrating on new Les Pauls from time to time. Shocking considering what they charge for their guitars these days (and it's mostly to give it the illusion of prestige- even though a PRS doesn't cost much more than a Les Paul standard).

Brass is very resonant, so should really help the tone (my bass- Washburn RB-2502 has a brass block inside the headstock to help the tone and sustain).

Ahh good old charlie... i used him when he had the shop in kew with his Mrs, not been to the new shop with anything yet although i`ve played a few gigs with the guy that works there..

I have a les paul custom stealth, only 25 made. I bought it because

A) An Isa i had payed me out and i always said if i came into money i`d buy a Gibson
B) it has no inlays and comes with EMG`s as standard oh and purple Binding.

It goes something like this...

Ooh- that's very nice!

Yeah- I used to go to Kew for set ups (bought my HRR strat from there in the 90s). They are very helpful...

Ha-ha!

She's a Jackson Soloist SL2. Lovely lovely guitar to play, had her for 5 or 6 years now and have never felt the need for any other guitar.

Got a couple of Ibanez's too but I find the necks too thin for me now; they put a bit too much strain on my tendon's.

That's the one thing with Ibz- you need to have the guitar quite high up to really get the most from the fretboard. I think the wide, flat fretboard does that too- it is more like a classical guitar than the usual Strat/Les Paul.

The neck on the RG1527 is more chunky- it actually feels a little like my bass- I prefer it to the neck on my RG550 already.

I always hear great things about Jacksons and Charvels- they've just never called out to me for some reason.

Yeah, I've got an Ibanez RG470 and a 270 (270 was my first ever guitar) and both have an extremely flat fretboard with a very thin neck. The Jackson has a compound radius fretboard and the neck is chunkier overall, very very easy to play. I'd recommend having a fiddle around on a Jackson if you get the chance, and any of the older Charvels too.

Since i played an ESP i went off of Ibanez (the necks I find are a little chunkier) which is what i like.

Nothing like a chunky neck now... oooh errrr. haha
