I wont lose any sleep if I happen not to ackowledge another biker or for some reason they do the same but I think this is just plain good manners, it seems an accepted norm that this happens and I'm happy to go along with it.

In the same way, I wont let the door close in your face if you happen to enter the pub behind me, wether you might be an ex burgler or otherwise.

I haven't seen a decline in riders acknowledging each other, there's always been miseries on bikes.

I almost always give a nod as do my Sunday only riding friends - however the IAM guys I sometimes ride with wont. I don't know if its not aproved by the group's charter or they just don't want to (I think a bit of elitism has crept in also) but I think it is bad manners. I see the nod as being polite and acknowledging we have something in common or just saying hello. If someone says hello to be in the street I'd say hello back.

I feel it's polite too. I feel quite rude if someone nods to me and I've been concentrating on something else and wasn't in a position to nod back, but obviously there's nothing else I can do in that situation.
One time I don't try to nod to people though is when they're going really fast round some twisties. It makes me wonder what people are thinking when they nod at me whilst I'm doing 90mph on some back roads and braking quite hard for a corner. It's pretty obvious I can't do it back! (maybe they're just being nice )

I nod.. (when i can - if my eyes arent focusing on whats developing in front of me)

sometimes find myself nodding when in the car - just about as daft as when on the bicycle mbk

in the same way you get some people that wont say hello, the same way you get some people that dont show respect to others (or rude imo) some people dont nod. I do. I know that the person thats nodded at me wants me to nod back. It will make them feel better so i do it. I nod at other people hoping that it might make them feel better in some way. If they dont nod back it doesnt bother me. Its just one of those ways you can help people get along imo.

However i see you live "darn sarf" so im supprised the self obsessed feckers dont knife you as they pass you tbh.

Blimey, thanks for all the opinions, didn't realise it would get so many different responses. I'll just carry on when I can and stuff'em if they don't nod back.
