I strongly agree it should be opt out, but from a reasonable age of about 16 perhaps? Before that you probably aren't in a position to make a proper informed decision.

I wrote a long post but then decided not to post it. I'm against automatic donation and believe that if you feel strongly enough about donating in the event of your death, it's easy enough to arrange.

There should be no presumption of re-using your body parts or anything else that belonged to you without your prior consent.

On a related topic, I remember pi$$ing myself laughing when I read this!

Personally I think it should be opt out, and I honestly couldnt understand anyone who would. You can't take them with you and if the worst was to happen to me in an accident, it'd bring solace that my death meant another person (or several) had a chance at life.

All i'd ask is what Jimmy Carr said, for all my organs to go to one person. That way its less of a donation and more a hostile takeover

Yes I'm on the register, they can take whatever they like.

A friend is alive only because she had a liver transplant as a teenager. Too many people die while waiting for an organ to become available. I believe in increasing the supply.

Personally I hate the idea of transplants. I honestly believe that tho I love my nearest and dearest, if I had a fatal disease that could be cured with a transplant, I'd say no. Obviously if it happened, I might change my mind (as it did with that young teenage girl in the news a few months back).
My dad has said that he's happy for his body to be donated to science when he dies. I don't like the thought of that - I'll have nothing to bury. But I can see that students need to learn on something.

As for people who think that it should be "opt out", does that apply for spam etc as well?

I don't see how you can compare spam with a human organ.

It was slightly facetious but the law recently changed so that you had to opt-in if you wanted to receive spam from web sites. The point is, where is the line drawn where a decision can be made for you because you didn't explicitly state that decision.

When it's something as important as saving a persons life then it's not unreasonable to adopt the opt in. You cannot compare saving lives to being slightly annoyed by useless emails...

I'm for it, I think!!!!!

I would carry one, I used to but since being diagnosed with diabetes & use insulin to control it I've been advised I can't.

As others have said we all may at some point need (or have loved ones who need) a transplant & none of us can take them with us when we do go.

I wish more people would carry cards now. My comment above about thinking about it is based on how would I feel if some low life benefits scrounger has ruined his body by sticking stuff like ecstatsy/amphetamine/heroin or years of cheap tacky cider drinking.

But, if there is anything in my body that could help another live on after my death or any part of it that could be donated to science to help in providing a cure for diseases etc - then I'm all for it.
