3-4 inches here, looking very crisp out there. i want to make footprints everywhere and then broom/shovel it all into a massive pile and see how long it will last as the weather changes.

Well I spent the night trying to deal with irate members of the public who thought it was their god given right to live their lives as normal despite anything nature might decide to throw at them. I don't know what was funnier, all the very scantily dressed young ladies outside the night club at 2am now wondering what to do because none of the taxis were able to drive anywhere, or the driver of the X5 parked on it's nose in a ditch because he thought his four wheel drive system would somehow give his 21" low profile tyres magical grip when descending a steep hill!

All I know is that at 6am I went out into the car park, spent five minutes fitting my chains, then drove home in my 330 BMW (you know, those cars that are rubbish in the snow) taking great care to dodge around the various stranded drivers that were by now littering the side of every incline I came across. The problem in the UK is not the weather, it's the inability of it's population to take any kind of responsibility for looking after itself. Good luck Paul, hope you got back OK!

Bob on mr herring. Between Birmingham I passed 16 seperate incidents, many cars facing the wrong way in the fast lane or hard shoulder, nobs in 4x4s steaming up what would be the fast lane of the cats eyes & white lines weren't coveted in snow. Done Birmingham to York in 2 hours before - 4hrs 15 last night. Got pics to post later

Yep bought a sledge for the youngest one last year, after the snow had gone, so a bargain

Spent most of today outside including sledging and snowball fights.

But as Red pointed out it wasn't sensible to be driving anywhere unless you had to.

So why oh why do the BBC & other broadcasters always send reporters out to show us how bad the snow (or weather in general) is, when the Police have said don't make any unnecessary journeys - pet hate

Spot on!!
My mate commuted Newcastle to Carlisle in a 320d through the really bad weather with a bust TC unit
Wrong tyres on most doesn't help.

Run flat ultra low profile emission reducing crap usually.

Been impressed with how the Vw t4 coped tbh, enough torque on Rickover revs to get it moving without digging in & enough weight for it to be stable over thicker chunks of snow..

Yeah as posted there must have been 5-6 incidents involving 2 or 3 vehicles with lots of damage & then around 10 where cars were facing the wrong way & were trying to reverse across the path of oncoming traffic.. North of Leeds on the m1 it was like driving on a snow covered run way with no indication of where the lanes were, and clueless muppets following too close & then panicking when for some strange reason their brakes didn't seem to slow them down..

Never seen anything like it.

Sounds fun.

What I dont understand is how anybody could have been surprised or not prepared for it. News & Weather forecasts have been blithering on about that weather arriving on Saturday for a few days, with police telling people not to travel unless really necessary, makes you wonder what they were all doing out in it in the first place.

Usual head in the sand and I can drive the same in the snow as I do on dry roads mentality

Strangely enough a Canadian colleague told me it was exactly the same there for the first few days of their snow season, then they readjust to the conditions
