I really like the engine. I guess it's a Marmite thing. Reminds me of a big two stroke. Also the engine is so smooth, feels like an electric motor.
It is very comfy and handles well for a big bike. Suspension feels better than the SV but most bikes are. Servicing costs are high but not just because of the engine. The combined brakes plus ABS make brake bleeding a PIA as one example. It might not be the quickest bike on the planet compared to some sports bikes but it feels quick after the SV. It pulls 110 in 3rd and I've pushed it to 140 a couple of times with more to come. sent via fax machine

I like my VFR. It's comfy, reasonably quick and the VTEC works for me. I've ridden all day across France in the pouring rain and when we arrived the bike was fine and so was I. Not something I'd want to do on the SV. It's a bit heavy for a city commute, and it wouldn't be my first choice for a track bike. But with those exceptions it's pretty good.
The main downside is the servicing every 16k. If you do it by the book you'll take the cams off at least twice, once to insert the special V-tec tool, and again to remove it after checking the clearances. That's a lot of labour, and a big bill if you're paying dealer prices. Last edited by keith_d; 08-04-14 at 07:54 AM. |

It'll take me a while to get to next 16k service. So a big bill every few years is fine. Interim services are straightforward and therefore cheap, so swings and roundabouts.
