What I need to know is has anybody with a SV650 K3 on fitted it yet and what was it ok?

I now understand that the solinoid is slightly different on the 650 from the 1K but all the fittings and instructions should work the same.

Of course since this detonation is not occurring in the cylinder it does nothing for your bike performance except give it cleaner emissions.
Is this not a worthy goal?

Not to derail Chewy22's well written topic of a system on our FI bikes... but, I have to agree with Ken.

This is a silly "mod." If you are racing and are concerned with weight then fine. Otherwise, come on guys - I beseech you, we have to breath this air for a long time...

Perhaps we should be thinking about being smoother on and off the throttle, or even getting the A/F ratio tightened up on the bike to alleviate some of the unspent fuel which apparently contributes to the PAIR's activation.

I know this might be more difficult than merely disabling the PAIR - but not all good things are free.

Ok, I'm off to go hug a tree or something now...

The whole PAIR idea is like thy're ****ing in your pocket and telling you it's raining.
All it does is DILUTE the pollution gases with fresh air. Them saying that it's to provide oxygen to ignite unburnt gases would mean that they whole combustion process is not stoichiometric(sp). Meaning that fuel and air mix and very little unburnt fuel is processed to the atmosphere.

According to my Haynes the early Sv models had a PAIR system fitted for California only.

Burner, you've got it wrong!

The combustion process doesn't fully complete in the engine itself, the PAIR injects more air (and hence oxygen) into the can so the unburnt fuel burns while its still hot enough to do so.

Once the exhaust gases have left the can, they cool too quickly for further combustion to take place. This is why exhaust emissions ARE reduced (not just diluted) with the device.
