I did the easier one.

Forget wire wool and any thoughts of a miror finish, use the rough side of a sink sponge in a motion up and down till it got most of the loose crud off.
Apply the autosol over the top of the now smooth but still brown pipe, polish.
Nice smooth finish to a brown pipe.

as much as i love your front pipe Jonboy, i just know i wont keep mine looking like that so i resigned myself early on to a routine i'd stick with.
Brown but smooth and clean.

I've got a Suzuki Bellypan [Kin expensive but Pyramid is good and a darned sight cheaper] Mine keeps the front pipe clean. I looked at the alternative, fitting lowers but if I had wanted a faired bike I would have bought something different from the SV The SV is one bike that a bellpan
looks right on and still retains its semi-naked look IMHO a good investment

Do you find the slight lowering in ground clearnece a problem? I don't exactly supermoto mine (stock suspension still ), but there are some fairly hefty speed bumps near me and I hope a bellypan won't affect clearence too badly. Ta for confirming it keeps the header pipe that much cleaner.

I have to bump mine up and down kerbs from time to time and I have never bottomed out my Pyramid belly pan.

I grounded my Pyramids one an absolute beauty riding down a parking ramp But Previous Owner's husband had decked both sides in corners, and gave it nice hero scars down the side. You'd have to be really going some though.

Now you should have a silver coloured pipe with a totally matt finish. If there are still marks on it then you need to go back to stage one.

Get a long strip of rag (about a metre by 5 cm) and then (after liberally coating the header pipe with more Autosol) loop it round the pipe twice so that you are holding both ends of it. Now push and pull in long regular strokes so that the rag is forced round the pipe. Gradually move the rag up and down the pipe while you're doing this adding more Autosol every few minutes. After about two hours you'll genuinely have a mirror finish.

Get a clean rag and wipe off any remains of the metal polish with a few vinegar strokes.

Oh and you'll sweat a lot . Good luck.

.
What a long and laborious way to do things Let me tell you the EASY way to do it. Cover the whole pipe with autosol or something similar Plug in your power drill with the polishing buff on the end and keep going and applying said polishing compound until you can see your face. Get a clean rag and wipe off the excess. Go inside make a cuppa put your feet up and think about the poor chaps that are doing it manually.
