Yep it's in BNQ next to the hammerite sprays. Cost about £8 as it's the stuff to use on aluminium opposed to standard stuff that flakes off.

There is no point in polishing corrosion out as it's removing the original laquer further and next winter they really will look like sh*te. Been there.
Ah, but they ae easier to maintain. Paint will only chip and flake again. The only true way is to get them annodised.

True but I've had no problems, the hammerite is really tough stuff - as it should be for the price.

looking rather shiny there viny not sure if she wants the forks shiny or just the crud gone ! think the later is more likely
After doing all that wouldn't it be easier to get 'em powder coated & have done

They look fantastic though

Default shiny forks

Hi All,

I’m well impressed with the way the font forks come up after a bit of effort. I’ve always thought it the one part of the bike that lets the rest down..... so I’ve decided to have a go myself. Obviously its best to remove the front mud guard to get at the forks properly
Now for cleaning purposes Ive tried to remove this in the past but have noticed a really annoying little clip on the very top of the fender that supports a cable that goes down to the front wheel hub. Initially I thought it was a press stud type clip and tried to prise the two halves apart. Try as I might I cant seem to get it undone without using excessive force and risk breaking it or damaging the fender. Is this the only way to get it done and if so can a replacement clip be obtained ? OR do the two halves separate. Any advice would be great.
Finally - is wetndry, scotchbrite, T cut, and metal polish the best way to go
PS Ive heard of scotchbrite - but what is it ??

If were talking about the same clip take of the front wheel then push the middle of the clip up from the underside of the fender with a small flatblade screwdriver what i did came out no problem!!

I've just cleaned mine up on my other SV, with some Garryflex blocks and some brushes on my dremel. Then a quick polished down with some metal polish, looks so much better. Though having done it I'm planning on just roughing them up again and getting them sprayed, but I have the bottom yoke to do first as its a brown rusty mess.

Spent all of 20 minutes with a wire brush attached to the power drill on the CB fork lowers, then a quick spray of silver paint, looks like it did when new, why people spend all that effort is beyond me

Cheers Mark.
