I've just ridden my new SV thru the 200 mile barrier. I came from an RS125, [plus a couple of rented Harleys in the States].
The things that have taken me by surprise are this; 1. at first, it seems that the pull from start off to 5'000 revs is enough to remove your arms from the shoulders, a day later I discovered that, if you can pull your retinas off the back of your eyes to see, the SV CONTINUES pulling HARD until about 10'000! 2. The engine braking isn't as bad as people may lead you to believe, but compared to a little bike is definitly a factor. Like stormspeil said no brake lights on engine braking, and if you shut the throttle mid roundabout you end up jerking and weaving all over. 3.My Yoshi end can is LOUD. 4.the front gets light and twitchy when you open the gas in 1st and 2nd. 5. Filtering's no problem. 6. WHAT A BLAST. The only way you're going to learn about the bike tho, is to ride it yourself. Enjoy the next few days, they are the best!! Safe riding, BN |

Fit a fender extender, keep some of the road crap off your down pipe.

Advice? Upgrade to a Hornet at the earliest opportunity
![]() But seriously, just take your time and get used to how the bike feels and handles and then gradually turn the wick up. Running in periods do have their uses ![]() Oh, and enjoy your bike ![]() |

Basically all of the above and not much to add.
Everything you do should be done in a relaxed manner. Even if you think you should panic, relax everything, then panic. Smooth is the word, smooth braking, smooth throttle control and have fun :P |

Be very careful with low speed manoeuvres (parking, approaching a
petrol pump, U-turns etc). Most drops happen during such manoeuvres. To be on the safe side it is often advisable either to paddle (walk sitting on the bike) or even get off the bike and walk with it. |
