Yes, they need high speed training. Arguably this even needs to be done on "open" public road with other traffic about. If this is the case, it should occur as part of a formal training program, which has the chief of police's report and that someone takes responsibility for it. It's not up to the individual officer to decide how/when/where they do this.

If 120 is the cut off point, why not fit limiters to all officers cars?
I think Ceri has hit the nail on the head here, the only thing i need to add is that if they limit coppers cars to 120mph.... you know they gonna limit the public vehicles to 69mph.
So keep that idea just amongst us eh? If they thought the general public werwe even slightly agreeable to having their vehicles limited you know they'd be pushing for it.
Or would they loose too much of the vital cash that they steal off road users everyday by doing that

I didn't think you could be taken to court a second time for the same offence, if you've been taken to trial before

Did'nt you know they had changed the law on being tried twice?Another one of your civil liberties that used to defend you against the overbearing state gone out the window.Plenty more where that went and plenty more to come unless a few more people in this country wake up and sniff a bit of coffee.
As for the copper,he was probably in the wrong, but was also probably doing what was regarded as normal among his colleagues. The upshot of this case should have been a review of practices and formal instructions given to their drivers on exactly what they can and can't do as "familiarisation" and practice.Truth is you can rarely tie down an employer like that. They love to have vague "guidlines"so they can wash their hands of you when the proverbial hits the fan.

I understand that policemen do have a difficult job at times. But blasting along the public highway purely for the hell of it is not on!* If he was in pursuit or on an emergency then fair enough.

*Such activity should be left with those more deserving...normally the riders of motorcycles!

i hope he gets locked up like the 2 bikers who did a similar thing. He says honing his skills, I say bo****s was he. He was doing what any of us would do, thrashing his new toy and having fun. If it's dangerous and irresponsible for us then it is for them too. He may have judged it as "safe" onempty roads but one can never know what's round the corner and who we may kill if it goes wrong. One rule for us should also apply to them.
