Am I wrong in thinking that if there is no tax then it invalidates the insurance policy?

Yes, road tax is not a requirement for your insurance.

I don't think the PO will accept that. IIRC cloggsy had a situation ages ago where the PO wouldn't accept the copy he printed out.

Well that is how mine was accepted, as it actually constitutes a legal document, I have 4 bikes on cover at the moment, and taxed 2 of them on the home printed cover note.
Still I suppose that individual post office employees can apply the rules with differing amounts of zeal !!

Online policys like e bike allow you to print off a covernote and i have done that to get a tax disc before

true, im my area, 3 of them wouldnt accept a print out.

(hint, use a lazer printer )
