As Robw#70 said, this one is off something else, turns out its physically longer too.

I would only buy a lightly used 2nd hand shock, last time I had an Ohlins shock 'serviced' it was £60, its gonna have seen some hard if it needs seals etc changing and I wouldn't buy it!! Just a clean, re-oil and re-charge is £60. There might be examples out there that don't even need that.

Anyone found a better price for a new one than this?

Product Ohlins Rear Shock
Machine Suzuki SV650S
Price £ 384
Comments Includes adjustable ride height adjuster
SV650Racer IIRC does em for only a bit more than that and when you've then fitted it to the bike steve should bounce the bike to make sure it's set up correctly for you and not just an 'average'

Good point IMO (No, not the 'bounce' per se). Some sort of back up even if limited is normally good in long run . A lil bit extra in the beginning if buying new may have more benefits all told( but you knew that already)

Cheers

Er, I’d rather find someone who sells them for a bit LESS than Mark, not a bit MORE

I can set it up myself, so it’s just down to where I can source it cheapest and checking it comes with the appropriate weight spring

Anyone ever got one imported?!? Usually such things are much cheaper across the water …

That's true and one reason not to buy from outside the UK. But presuming the shock isn't faulty, I see no difference in where it is sourced?

Its all ok to source a cheap shock elsewhere, but don't expect as much help if you get a problem at the circuit and need it rebuilt/fixed to get you out for next race

£384 is the retail and seeing as generally dealers only get 10% on Ohlins the price will be similar, its more the backup that counts.
You pays your money etc...............

That wouldnt be a veiled refewrance to a certain 600 rider who couldnt wait for steve to fix a leaking fork seal only to come back later when the place he did get to do it completely cocked it up leaving them worse than they were to begin with

I doubt you'll be able to import one at a price that makes sense all told. Having a poke around the cheapest that came up was around the £345 mark that's before you add shipping and import duty and VAT(+ 20% ?) if you get unlucky

So even at that price(no duty/Vat), do you actually gain much in the long run

Does Steve take the facilities to rebuild a shock to the track then?

I know/hear he is an authorised Ohlins technician. Surely if he has the facilities he would rebuild a shock for any Ohlins owner?! Or will he do it for free if you bought it from him? Or you just jump a queue if he has one? To be fair the likelihood of a shock suddenly going faulty is pretty remote … especially if it is new (and presuming not a faulty batch/one).

I can’t find any pricing for a shock on Steves website http://www.stevejordanmotorcycles.co.uk/index.asp but from what you say it is more expensive? How much more expensive???

21QUEST – If those numbers are correct, then indeed it isn’t worth the grief. If Robw#70 reckons that £384 is pretty much rock bottom in the UK then if I buy new, then Mark is obviously subsidising the minitwins series (i.e. not trying to make a profit) and therefore at the mo has my money!!

Not that he would be able to do much about it there and then, but if the item goes faulty then Mark is at most meets, either riding, supporting, or marshalling (as is his wife), like Steve sounds to be, Mark is really helpful too (he has got me out of a tight spot before )!

No just spent too long in the motorcycle trade dealing with the general public.
I dont think steve charges any more than anyone else, only difference maybe that he can get close to where you need it prior to fitting so if a spring change is needed then a small charge for swapping etc
