On the pointy, what they often seem to do is pull out of the bars slightly, bend back, then hit the tank... Seen that a few times. But yep, by and large they're good protection.

When I had my pointy I experimented with different screw lengths until more by luck than judgement I eliminated any vibes. I used a counter balance behind the rubber[spacing washers] but I agree that a properly set-up bike shouldn't need them apart from cosmetic and protection issues

I agree - the originals look rubish when they're scrathed and weathered - so I took mine off (which was a pain as the screws were virtually seized) , stripped the paint off the with wet and dry and polished them up with solvol and now they look like "Petevtwin650s" above - cost nil !

Great idea to polish up the standard ones. Didn't even consider that option.

Sorry no - but they look pretty simmilar to the ones on page 1 of this thread - 4th post down.
I must get around to learning how to upload images onto this site - how tricky can it be ?
