its not knocking its kinda clicking

If it's clicking and not ticking and if you got qute a high mileage it could very well be piston slap.

Could well be the chain needing lube/oil on it. A friend who had a Honda hornet had a similar thing, horible sound seemed to be comming from the engine etc, he oiled and lubed the chain well and everything was good again , noise gone.

If i remember rightly the exhaust melted but the engine kept running.

I saw that on another forum- think they ran a 02 ZX6R/ZZR600. The next day, it had cooled, they put fluids in, and it ran!
