Can't beat Rotherhithe Tunnel with a nice V-Twin. It's a proper round tunnel as well - none of your archway rubbish!

They're pretty much identical. We share quite a few subjects, otherwise they change 'car' to 'plane'. The merger this year has screwed things up big time. We're doing an entirely new course put together from lots of bits of others, makes it a nightmare trying to work out what we should be learning. sounds poo. i have been wondering how the merger has been going.

the last year i was at umist man uni and umist seemed to be getting more separate, they had previously shared computer systems so we could all share computer rooms and libraries etc but i think umist got annoyed with man uni and decided to do their own network and when i graduated from umist you could pick whether to have a umist or man uni degree (i think umist had only just got permission or whatever to award their own degrees), i'm one of the few people with a degree certificate that says umist on it.

do you have any lectures/labs with dr methven? i didn't dare sleep through any of his lectures!!

Yes he did escape in a boat and was one of the few that made it.

Good spot though cos in a way it answered the question. In his case the tunnel was dug to fit the supports they had available i.e. timber sections nicked from the beds.

Rounds tunnels reflect sound / noise to a focal point depending on the radius and complexity of the curvature, increasing the G (strength) factor at that point.
Square tunnels create parallel reflections between ground and ceiling.
Corrugated ceilings create sound diffusion, possibly increasing reverberation time and the G factor.

In the film he was played by Charles Bronson and, yes, he did escape in a rowing boat. I've just finished reading the factual account of the escape written by Paul Brickhill who was a member of the "X" organisation in Stalag Luft 13. In reality Flt.Lt. Velinski was one of the 50 murdered on the personal orders of Hitler. Incidentally, of the 79 that managed to get out only 3 managed to get back to England. Most of them were caught, interrogated and shot.

Getting back to the point, I prefer riding thru round tunnels as the acoustics are better. Theres a fairly long tunnel just outside Rouen that is fantastic to ride thru when theres a lot of bikes.
