Well done Baph for standing your ground.

About 12:30am on 7 April while riding home from the Soho meet I got pulled. I joined the Windsor by-pass doing 85mph, my approach speed to a roundabout was too high so I went through a red light, then did 40mph in a 30 zone, followed by 50 in a 40 zone. Plus no baffle in the can. I did not realise the car following my was a patrol car.

I knew I had done wrong, so grovelled highly and admitted it. They let me go with just a warning. They took my details so I am now on the Thames Valley Constabulary database which shows I ride bikes, and I dont mind this. Will probably mean I get sent details of further training courses.

The two policemen ride bikes as well, which is why they went easy on me. They were friendly and chatty, and did not weald a 'big stick' !

i don't think (although i'll stand corrected if i'm wrong) that the pandas can do you for speeding unless its way too fast and obvious. I think a lot of money is spent calibrating the speedos of the traffic cars so they're spot on, and can be used in court, however the pandas are just standard- from the showroom jobs. Proven beyond reasonable doubt and all that...
well done!

No no, in this brave new world the only proof needed is the word of the police officer. Can't be doing with pesky things like 'evidence' and 'due process'.

I'm sorry mate but why oh why----------You upset the plod and put your self in the frame. TWO WRONGS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT but by antagonising the situation you may have marked your own card. Nobody likes to be made out to be a fool but he who laughs last laughs longest and plod can play with a stacked deck. My suggestion is keep a low profile for the next few weeks, why risk it?is it worth it? It takes a long time to get a license but a few seconds to loose it

What a hero you are Baph!

I mean, you ride a bike in excess of the speed limit with an illegal exhaust and (from what I have gathered from this post) an illegal numberplate. You also fail to display your valid tax disc, then have the gall to complain when the Police pull you over and pick up on those facts.
I completely agree that the driver of that Police vehicle should have adhered to the speed limit, but you also took the p**s and got stopped for it. Could have been a lot worse.

All I hope is that the official complaint you make to North Wales Police for this wanton harassment is taken very seriously - let us know how it turns out.

And you may want to consider riding a road-legal motorcyle before crying out about double-standards.

Nope... Entrapment is encouraging someone to commit a criminal offence then arresting them for it. IE, "Want to buy some weed" "OK" "" ""

Here is entrapment:

"We're like Jack Palance in the movie Shane, throwing the pistol at the sheep herder's feet: "Pick it up." "I don't wanna pick it up mister, you'll shoot me." "Pick up the gun." "Mister, I don't want no trouble, huh. I just came down town here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don't even know what gingham is, but she goes through about 10 rolls a week of that stuff. I ain't looking for no trouble, mister." "Pick up the gun." Boom, boom. "You all saw him. He had a gun." "

This one isn't entrapment, it's a copper being a **** and breaking the law. Quite different

At the time I was stopped, I was no more than 10mph over the limit. I don't consider that taking the p*ss. Still illegal, yes, but not taking the p*ss. I could of been 5mph over the limit, which would bring speedo inaccuracies into question.

The exhaust is illegal in black & white, yes, but coppers are starting to take the opinion that it's better to be loud than it is to be dead. Even in North Wales. The only black & white reason for it being illegal is the fact that it has no baffle, and possibly the volume, but without testing, I wouldn't know that for certain. I'm glad you feel so confident about the volume that my bike makes.

Loads of bikers don't display a valid tax disc, and since it was readily available, and I have good reason for not displaying it, anyone would be hard pressed to get a serious conviction over that. The reasoning for it is that my disc holder is far from theft-proof. If I get a ticket (or worse) for it whilst the bike is parked & I'm not near it, fair enough. Anything other than that will be appealed. Actually, I need to check up on the specific wording of the law on that, I'm not sure if the law states that you must display a valid disc, or if it just says you must display a tax disc. In this instance, it could also be that the tax disc has only recently arrived, and it's slipped my mind to put it on the bike. Applying the law in black & white, still illegal, but a much more socially acceptable reason.

My plate, is 7x5, with a border. It's very marginal as to if it's illegal or not, and you'd have to get a ruler out & know the measurements to tell.

The facts they picked up on, I wouldn't consider them picking up on them. More touched upon. If when I pressed for details, he could of given them, then the outcome probably would of been worse for me. But then, if it had of been, my complaint about his driving & attitude would of been more serious, as I would of had less to loose (my sole reasoning was to try my luck at getting out of the MOT & document production, if I already had the points/court, what could I do to make it worse by landing him in it?).

I also don't see when I've really complained about double standards. If they can get away with breaking the law, then surely so can I. If I'm expected to tow the line, they should be the leading example. Less complaining, more using.

I don't see anything I did as "crying," more of a "playing the system." You play the game, you take your chances. I accept that also includes getting hands smacked & quite possibly worse.

EDIT: I actually sat down & worked it out this morning. In the first 8months of owning the SV, it was 100% stock. Completely legal. I got stopped by the police a grand total of 17 times (that I can remember). 17times in 8 months. That's more than once a fortnight. The vast majority of these were "Spot check on your vehicle sir." Yesterday was the first time I have ever been stopped for speeding (even including my car licence!). Approx 2 months ago, I changed the plate. I haven't been stopped (other than yesterday) since then. Approx 2 weeks ago, I changed the exhaust. So it would seem, that I'm stopped less now, than I was before. Do the math.
