Did you check both of them, side stand & clutch lever?

Good luck

Checked the sidestand and clutch lever....no probs there thanks...

I have just fitted new (second hand) coils....won't really know if this has worked till I go for a run, down side to that is it's on the way to the airport.

I'll let you all know when I get back.....I'm in the west mids by the way if there's anyone around here that knows a thing of two about these bikes and feels like having a look....I'm back Monday next week.

hang about this sounds familiar..have you checked regulator rectifier? askin cause I had this couple of years back and we found that some wiring between battery and the above had worn away with time and was frying both.as it was rubbing against the frame.....it might be a real blonde thing to suggest and i don't want to be a time waster but as a long shot....

.If its an electrical prob we're mates with ferrets electricery and he's the biz

FWIW i had some running issues. I think where my bike had been parked in a garage all winter the fuel had varnished a bit and part blocked a jet. A bottle of forte has helped and it seems to be clearing all the time. I have to strip and clean the carbs at some point though.

The other problem I had was the bike wouldn't start very well at all and popped and cut out and only really ran on one cyclinder to start with? Turned out to be a loose earth terminal on the battery. There were no other symptoms to this though. But a quick tighten and it starts properly now.

Hi... Having only bought the bike late last year and not having much of a history to go on, (none actually). The bike could have stood for a while, so when I get back the carbs are going to have to come off and have a good clean....The previous owner (bit of a ass really) he didn't even send the change of ownership to the DVLA. More importantly, he didn't care for the bike much at all and it was in a right mess when I became it's owner so I have had to spend most of my free time fixing it up...Well worth it though, it is a nice bike when running well...

The clutch was wired so as not to have to pull the lever to start it....I put that back to normal when I replaced the lever and bracket with the correct one for the bike.

I have checked and cleaned every single plug or switch that I could find on the bike, also inspected all the wireing that can be found, all ok there.

The one and only thing I could find as a visible fault was that the airbox was separated from the front carb, I have to assume that it was this way upon purcahse. I have re-possitioned it correctly to the carb and used a can of STP spray carb cleaner down them....Think they're gona have to come off and be given a thourough cleaning....

As I said...have replaced the coils.... it's better but the problem is still there...

If I don't reply now for a week...don't think I've lost heart ....I'm just away for a drink or two

Speak to you all soon!!!!

Okies my 2p's worth

Check/replace the following checking the bike after each thing.

Replace the plugs
Check the Airfilter. (Is it std or has the numpty before put a perfomance one in? Replace to std if they have)
Pop the carbs off, clean the plungers on the choke, and put a new cable on there whilst you are at it.
Check the carbs for general cleanliness. If confident, then pop the float bowls off and give a clean (use an impact driver as it wont damage the screws)...or a decent screwdriver. Check the plungers and the Diaphrams as well.
Check the plug on the ECU (Unplug, and clean)
Empty fuel and refill with good quality fuel (Shell/BP etc) could be water in there.
Replace the HT leads. You could be getting one breaking down.

I think that and what you have done would cover 99% of things.

Hi all

Well, for starters, had a blast in Germany...got very drunk lol

Upon my return, I stripped the carbs off the bike and gave them a very thourough cleaning and while they were off I lubed the choke and throttle cables.

When I put it all back together, I wispered very nicely to the bike that if it didn't work it was being sold!!!!!

Don't know which of the two worked but it's running great....Took it for a run yesterday and I have no complaints

So, a very big thankyou to all who have helped with this problem

Incedentelly.....are any of you going to the Bike fest at Donnington park this Sunday?
